South African security services said on Friday (September 18th) that they had no evidence that Iran plans to assassinate the American ambassador in Pretoria, Lana Marks.
According to the Politico news site, which quotes in an article published on Sunday two American officials on condition of anonymity, the intelligence services in the United States believe that the Iranian government is considering attempting to assassinate the ambassador in South Africa , Lana Marks, a relative of Donald Trump.

At present, there is not sufficient information to support the claim that there is a real threat against the United States Ambassador to South Africa,

The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday denounced "

repetitive and nauseating methods to create an anti-Iranian climate on the international scene
".
Washington and Tehran have been at daggers drawn since the unilateral withdrawal of the United States in May 2018 from the international Iranian nuclear agreement concluded in Vienna in 2015, accompanied by the return of heavy sanctions against Iran.
South African services added that they had requested additional information from the US government and called on "
everyone to remain calm
".
