As the new crown pneumonia epidemic continues, students in Hong Kong have experienced lengthy online learning.

A survey by the Hong Kong Christian Service found that students’ feelings about online learning are relatively negative. About 67% of students find it dull, about 40% think it’s stressful, and that online learning is less than 20% enjoyable and interesting.

The agency recommends that schools and education bureaus should actively collect students’ opinions, understand students’ opinions on online classes and their expectations for class resumption, narrow their differences, and care for and support primary and secondary school students who lack resources.

The Hong Kong Christian Service Department successfully interviewed 432 primary 4 to secondary 6 students in the form of an online questionnaire from the 1st to the 8th of this month to understand their feelings about online learning. It was found that about 67% of the students felt bored, about 40%. % Think they are stressed, and about 20% feel anxious and lonely, respectively. They think that online learning is enjoyable and interested only less than 20%.

The survey also compared the actual operation of the school's online class with the students' expectations. It was found that the school's number of tests, the open campus situation, the reservation of school facilities, the opening of the video lens, and the regulations on wearing school uniforms for online classes all fell far short of students' expectations.

For example, nearly 80% of the interviewed students expect schools to reduce the number of tests and exams during online learning, but in reality, only less than half of the students said that their schools have reduced.

Nguyen Qiao-en, team leader of the Shendong Le TEEN Association of Hong Kong Christian Service (pictured on the right), hopes to listen to students’ opinions when arranging online classes, and to consider from the perspective of students as much as possible, adjust the course content, class time and class norms to make students more willing to participate Learn.

In addition, about 30% of the respondents believe that schools provide insufficient support for online learning, and more than 25% of the respondents believe that their living environment is not suitable for online learning.

Nguyen Qiao-en, the leader of the "Shendong Lok Teen Club" of the Hong Kong Christian Service, suggested that schools and the Education Bureau should take the initiative to collect students’ opinions, understand students’ opinions on online classes and their expectations for class resumption, and narrow their differences. At the same time, care and support resources are scarce. Primary and secondary school students, for example, during the suspension of classes, can continue to open campuses and facilities to support grassroots students.
