The dean of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg died Friday, September 18 at the age of 87, leaving a vacant position with great powers, which augurs an intense political battle ahead of the presidential election of November 3 .
This progressive judge, who has become a real icon on the left, died of pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her family.

According to NPR radio, the judge "
RBG
", as she had been nicknamed, had herself confided her last wishes to her granddaughter, Clara Spera.
“
My dearest wish is not to be replaced until a new president has taken the oath,
” she dictated to him a few days before her death.
Hundreds of people came to pay homage to Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

In front of the headquarters of the Supreme Court in Washington, where the two American flags located on each side of the building were half-masted, hundreds of people came to pay homage to him by placing flowers and candles there.
Among them, many young people, including Erin Drumm, a 19-year-old student at the Catholic University of the United States.
“
I came here because I believe that RBG represents everything for which America should mobilize,
” he said, citing in particular “
respect (...) for the other, whatever his gender, race, ethnicity or religion
”.

Taylor Gutierrez, 26, came to pay tribute to her memory, "
especially as a gay man knowing she has helped create a more just society for us
".
But now, he adds, “
there is a real fear of going back on all these achievements
”.
Appointed to the high court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, after having distinguished herself by advancing women's rights in the 1970s, Ruth Bader Ginsburg had become extremely popular despite the seriousness of her position.
Thanks to its positioning in phase with the aspirations of the youngest, it had conquered them, to the point of earning the nickname of “
Notorious RBG
” in reference to the rapper Notorious BIG.
