The United States has intensified pressure and criticism of Iran in recent days, accusing it of plotting to assassinate U.S. diplomats, attempted interference in the November presidential election and cyber-attacks.

All while preparing a package of sanctions.

However, according to a report published today (Friday) in the New York Times, American sources and Washington's allies claim that Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei is preventing any significant revenge, except for actions in cyberspace.

U.S. intelligence sources told the New York Times that Iran also banned plans from a year ago that were supposed to go into effect during the election season to surprise the United States.

According to the same sources, the Islamic Republic planned to attack Persian Gulf vessels or oil production facilities in the Middle East with the intention of shocking global markets and hurting the chances of US President Donald Trump.

According to the American newspaper, the recalculation of Iran's trajectory came in the wake of the corona plague that severely damaged the world economy, making any attack on oil facilities useless.

Iran also believes that any attack other than cyber attacks will help Trump in the election and give the United States an opportunity to respond militarily.

This is according to sources in the US, among its allies and in Iran.

Intelligence sources among Washington's allies told the newspaper that Iranian leaders concluded that restraint was the best way to prevent Trump from being re-elected.

Despite this, the US president and some of his top aides have portrayed Iran as a significant threat recently.

At the same time, some government officials have publicly acknowledged the restraint shown by Iran.

It was also reported that in closed talks, Iranian leaders are convinced that the United States and Israel are running operations against them.

This is according to officials among the Washington allies who have received an update on the intelligence material.

Despite this, Iran did refrain from responding to the explosion at the Netanz nuclear facility attributed to Israeli action.
