The book recently issued by the Syrian General Authority for the book entitled “Contemporary Syria 1963-1993” by Dr. Khaled Muhammad Hussein deals with one of the most historical stages in Syria rich in developments from the outbreak of the March 8 Revolution led by the Arab Socialist Baath Party until the early 1990s and the end of the Cold War.

In its first chapter, the book deals with the sixties of the last century, beginning with the union with Egypt and then the separation, paving the way for the causes of the March 8 Revolution, which constituted a radical recovery in the state’s capabilities, then the setback in June 1967, through the period before November 1970.

The second chapter of the book examines the factors leading to the establishment of the corrective movement and its confrontation with the state of deterioration and loss caused by the setback, passing through the components of this movement and its most important achievements.

As for the third chapter, it discusses the causes and motives of the October liberation war and the external targeting that the region was subjected to in an attempt to encircle the achievements of this war, including the outbreak of the civil war in Lebanon, the crimes of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and the Zionist invasion of Lebanon. The fourth chapter of the book deals with the development that has occurred in Syria in the field of economy, agriculture, industry and sectoral indicators of the national economy since the dawn of the March 8 revolution until 1993, explaining this by numbers, tables and accurate statistics.

The book, which was first printed in 1996, is composed of 430 pages of large pieces and contains many references by Syrian, Arab and foreign researchers that strengthened the documentary side of the book and enriched it with scientific and historical material, as well as the author being one of those who lived the events of that era, which he dated closely.
