New York - SANA
China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, today renewed his country's opposition to the US unilateral declaration on re-imposing international sanctions on Iran, stressing that these attempts are "null and illegal."
In a message addressed to both the president of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations and reported by Xinhua, Zhang said: “The United States unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement signed with Iran and is no longer participating in it. From this standpoint, it is not legitimate for the United States to demand The Security Council applies a mechanism to re-impose all sanctions.
Zhang reiterated China's commitment to support the effectiveness of the nuclear deal and the authority of the Security Council resolution, and to make unremitting efforts to find a political solution that satisfies all parties.
Earlier today, Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Rawanji, denounced America's allegations about re-imposing sanctions on Iran, which were canceled after International Resolution 2231, stressing that these allegations are null and have no legal effect, while Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed yesterday that The resolution does not authorize the United States to impose an arms embargo and sanctions on Iran.
