A crucial meeting will be held today (Sunday) in Abu Dhabi between senior officials from the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Sudan regarding a normalization agreement between Sudan and Israel - this is what Sudanese sources told Walla!

NEWS.

It is estimated that if the United States accepts Sudan's requests for assistance, a statement establishing relations with Israel may be issued within days.

The meeting is expected to be attended by the head of the Gulf and North Africa Department of the White House National Security Council, General Miguel Korea - one of the architects of the agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

The Emirates was represented in the talks by National Security Adviser Tahanon Ben-Zayed, who is in charge of contacts with Israel, and Sudan was represented by advisers to the head of the Sovereignty Council, 'Abd al-Fatah al-Burhan, as well as representatives of the Sudanese civil government headed by Justice Minister Nasser a-Din Abd al-Al -Bari who is also an American citizen.

Excluding Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism is also on the agenda.

Sudanese sources said the Sudanese government is seeking three changes for normalization with Israel: $ 1.2 billion worth of wheat and fuel supplies in the wake of the humanitarian crisis following the country's floods;

Receiving an immediate $ 2 billion cash grant to balance the government budget deficit;

And a commitment to financial assistance for the next three years.

Israel is closely following the meeting.

Since the meeting between Netanyahu and the head of Sudan al-Burhan's sovereignty council in Uganda in February, the two countries have continued in quiet talks.

The issue of normalization with Sudan also came up in a meeting held by Prime Minister Netanyahu with US Secretary of State Pompeo last Tuesday in Washington.

Israel encourages the United States to respond to Sudan's requests for economic assistance.

The White House and UAE officials declined to comment.

In addition to economic aid, Sudan also demands that the United States remove it from the blacklist of countries that sponsor terrorism.

This issue is only indirectly related to normalization with Israel.

Pompeo supports removing Sudan from the terror list and has set the end of October as the target date for the move.

However, for this to happen, two conditions must be met that are related to domestic American politics: the Sudanese government pays compensation of $ 300 million to the families of American terror victims killed in terrorist attacks in Africa in the late 1990s;

And passing a law in the U.S. Senate that would grant Sudan immunity from future lawsuits in the United States, and restore its status to a state that is not considered a supporter of terrorism.

Pompeo is putting pressure on Republican and Democratic senators to make sure the law passes in the Senate by Oct. 15.

The Americans believe that a normalization between Sudan and Israel will convince the senators from both parties to support such a law.

Green light from the civilian government

The crucial meeting today will take place on the sidelines of a visit by the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, General 'Abd al-Fatah al-Burhan, to the United Arab Emirates.

Al-Burhan is expected to meet with the United Arab Emirates' heir, Muhammad bin Zayed, and discuss with him Sudan's accession to normalization with Israel and the assistance Sudan will receive from the United States and the United Arab Emirates in return for such a move.

Al-Burhan strongly supports normalization with Israel and believes that the move will help the country emerge from the severe economic and humanitarian crisis in which it finds itself.

Except that it represents only the military faction of the Sudanese government.

The civilian government in Sudan and especially its head, Abdullah Hamduk, have long objected to the move for fear of internal protest.

However, sources in Sudan claim that in recent days Hamduk has been convinced that a move to normalize with Israel would serve Sudan's interests and gave al - Burhan a "green light" to move forward if Sudan's demands for economic aid were met.

Hamduk did not join al-Burhan on a trip to the UAE, but sent his chief of staff and justice minister to take part in contacts with the Americans and emirates.
