Donald Trump once again owes his salvation to the Democrats.
The American president is still lagging behind in the polls, but in recent weeks he has been able to reestablish a seemingly desperate position thanks to the ideological drifts of his opponents.
In the spring, the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic recession it triggers exposed the limits of a president who has always preferred commentary to action, sarcasm to organization and the permanent electoral campaign to management daily business.
Faced with an unprecedented health crisis, Trump reacted as usual: with a mixture of muddled flippancy and self-promotion, shirking his responsibilities, blaming his opponents and celebrating his imaginary successes.
