Syrian Scientific Olympiad students participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) organized by Russia today and tomorrow, along with 622 students representing 114 countries.
The Excellence and Creativity Authority indicated in a statement that SANA received a copy of it today that the participating Syrian team includes students Ali Bakur from the second grade of secondary school (Aleppo), Hussein Khalil from the second grade of secondary school (Tartous), Muhammad Fuad Al-Moeen from the third grade of secondary (Aleppo) and Alauddin Ahmed is from the second grade of secondary school (Aleppo), Abdul Karim Sayed Ramadan from the third grade of secondary school (Damascus), and Khalil Tarsha Kurdi is from the third grade of secondary school (Aleppo).
According to the authority’s statement, the competitions include two rounds of exams, each of four and a half hours continuous, and include a group of high-level issues in mathematics, where the technical measures required by the Olympic Organizing Committee in Russia have been taken, including direct video filming of students as they submit the tests from the center designated for them. This is the third international participation of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for mathematics during the current year, as it had previously participated in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics, which was held (remotely) last March. The Syrian outcome was five bronze medals achieved by Abdul Karim Sayed Ramadan, Ali Bakur, Ala Al Din Ahmed, Majd Nasser and Al Hussein Khalil and five certificates of appreciation received by Muhammad Fuad Al-Moein, Muhammad Al-Qudsi, Muhammad Al-Shaalan, Nour Bishlawi and Mazen Muzahim.
The Syrian team also participated in the cyberspace competition for mathematics organized by the Mathematics Association in the United States of America last July, in which it won a bronze medal obtained by Hussein Khalil and a certificate of appreciation for Alaeddin Ahmed.
