The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin announced today that the meeting of the guarantor countries of the Astana process on Syria will be held in Iran “as soon as” health conditions permit due to the spread of the Corona epidemic.
"We have an agreement that the next summit of guarantor countries will be held in Iran as soon as the epidemiological conditions are met," Russian Sputnik news agency quoted Vershinin as saying in a statement today, pointing out that preparations for this began earlier.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that the specific dates for the meeting have not yet been discussed, but there is political determination and focus on holding it, stressing the effectiveness of the Astana process in resolving the crisis in Syria.
In a joint statement, the heads of the guarantor states of the Astana process renewed in a joint statement following a videoconference in early July, to affirm their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and integrity of Syria and the continuation of cooperation until the final elimination of terrorism in it, stressing their rejection of any separatist plans that violate Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
