A man was shot dead by a border agent in Arizona who was stabbed multiple times in an incident east of the city of Nogales.
The Border Patrol officer was patrolling the area on foot when he encountered a group of migrants, whose nationality is still unknown.
When trying to stop them, assuming that they could be undocumented, one of the men in the group attacked and stabbed the agent several times with a knife.
The officer responded using his weapon and killed the subject according to Roy Villarreal, chief of the patrol officers in Tucson, through his Twitter account.
The FBI launched an investigation into the incident, he added.
The injured agent was airlifted to a hospital.
