Described as an arsonist "
extremely formidable
" by the producer of the Republic Dominique Alzeari, this father "
had a characteristic operating mode and used fire-
starter
cubes planted on a screw or a nail
" to avoid burning himself, reports the prosecutor.
Moving in his vehicle, he threw the lit cubes out of the window to start the fire.
A "
formidably effective
" system, according to the prosecutor: "
In total, 40 hectares have burned down and acts have also been committed in built-up areas.
"
Suspected of being responsible for no less than 24 fires started between July 14 and September 14, the suspect only admitted part of the facts, claiming to be responsible for only ten fires.
Acts that the arsonist "
can not really explain
", according to the prosecutor, cited by
La Dépêche
.
His lawyer, Eric Mouton, said he did not know more: “
This explanation can only result from a psychiatric expertise which will be carried out as part of the investigation.
His behavior is irrational.
He is a man who commits acts in which he has absolutely nothing to gain.
"
Already sentenced 17 times for theft, traffic offenses, drug-related offenses or arson, the man faces 10 years in prison, "
even 20, because he is a repeat offender
", notes Dominique Alzeari.
