How to speak out today against capitalism, social networks and consumerism?

Simple, with a video of love or heartbreak?

in which a couple lives a toxic relationship and in the end they consume themselves.

This is what the sisters, originally from Colombia, Laura and Lucía Villa, known as “Las Villa”, seek to present in the video for the song “Caníbales” along with the dancehall and island music singer, Beéle.

“Caníbales is a pop and ballad version that we are not used to, but we share something very big and visible.

The message we wanted to share is about the act of consumerism, cannibalism, this self-devotion, the self-devastation that we see reflected as a society against other people, against ourselves;

this cannibalism that capitalism invites us where everything is immediate, fashion, music that no longer works tomorrow.

Social media and numbers are what matter today and not people, and how this act of cannibalism is reflected in our society.

It is a fresh and fun message so that people can connect through a metaphor of a loving and toxic relationship where a boy leaves a girl at the altar ”.

Musical theater, its great teacher

Both studied at the School of Musical Theater in Bogotá.

Although the two affirm that their favorite musical is “The Phantom of the Opera”, Lucía assures that the theatrical stages formed them to be who they are today: “The Villages have studied flamenco, music and musical theater.

This has been something very special in our lives and it has made us able to be artists;

We have been on stage since very young.

Knowing how to approach art in different ways and the way we include them in our music, costumes, is wonderful.

Above all, the characters are something very cute, many people wonder where these girls came from.

They do not locate us.

We are from a different world from the world of theater ”.

Singers like Shakira, Juanes, Maluma and Carlos Vives, have put the name of Colombia very high, the advice that J Balvin gave them in a recent campaign in which they participated, was the one that marked them.

“They have made us dream of being able not only to achieve success, but to carry the name of our country high so that people say: Wow Colombia !, a country full of music and art.

We were with J Balvin who told us 'if they are here and at this moment, it is because they are doing something well, because they have something very personal and I have nothing to tell them about how to do things', that left us shocked.

The most beautiful thing that we take away from the Colombian exponents is that you have to bet on yourself before someone else does it, you have to dream it, you have to believe it and you have to work on it, ”says Laura.

What does the future hold for you professionally and personally?

“This year we will have more collaborations and new music.

I continue with my professional studies at the university as a singer and musical arranger, while Laura specializes as a composer, ”says Lucía.
