The Prosecutor's Office in Perugia, in Italy, is investigating whether Uruguayan soccer player Luis Suárez cheated in his tests of mastery of the Italian language.

The player needed the B1 certificate of mastery of that language to obtain nationality, giving him the possibility to play in the soccer league of that country.

In a statement, the Economic-Financial Police of the Guarda di Finanza de Perugia reported that since February of this year it has been investigating various events related to the University for Foreigners of Perugia.

As a result of this work, alleged irregularities came to light in Suárez's Italian exam carried out on September 17.

According to the investigations, the exam topics have been previously agreed with the candidate and the score was attributed before the test was taken.

The University for Foreigners of Perugia issued a statement in which it assured that the examination carried out by the footballer was done "with correctness and transparency."

"The university hopes that the ongoing investigations will clearly confirm this," he says.

According to the same prosecutor's office, Suárez demonstrated a basic knowledge of the Italian language during the distance lessons.

CNN contacted the footballer's representative to find out his reaction and still received no response.

Suárez traveled to Italy at a key moment in his career.

When coach Ronald Koeman took over the Barcelona bench less than a month ago, he told Suárez that he will not have him this season.

The Uruguayan striker was not taken into account in the last Barça friendly.

However, it is not yet defined whether he will leave the club or stay.

But according to recent statements by Juventus sports director Fabio Paratici, one of the teams interested in signing Suárez, the legal process that would qualify Suárez to play in the Italian league could not be completed before the deadline for transfers. .
