The United States and the United Arab Emirates hope to conclude a deal to sell the advanced F-35 stealth planes by next December, officials involved in the talks said.
According to sources, the goal is to formulate a memorandum of understanding by December 2, the Emirates' Independence Day.
The publication comes during Defense Minister Bnei Gantz's visit to the United States, which is trying to allay fears in Israel about the loss of a qualitative military advantage.
According to two sources, Washington is examining ways so that the advanced aircraft, made by the American Lockheed Martin, will be more visible to Israel's radar systems. Reuters could not determine whether these are changes that will be made to the aircraft or the supply of new radars to Israel.
The Emirate of Emirates in Washington has not yet commented on the matter.
The White House declined to comment.
A Pentagon spokeswoman told Reuters he would not approve or comment on potential deals until they were sent to Congress for approval.
