Taiwanese artist Huang Hongsheng (little ghost) died suddenly due to aortic dissection. He was 36 years old. The news of his death came very suddenly. It is regrettable that he has questions about "aortic dissection." What is it?

What is the difference with myocardial infarction?

Once the aortic dissection occurs, is it bound to die?

Is there a way to prevent aortic dissection?

Are people with three highs particularly prone to aortic dissection?

Are the symptoms the same for everyone?

The following is a cardiology specialist Chen Qiyin explaining the various problems related to aortic dissection (as shown in the picture 👇👇👇):

Two major differences between aortic dissection and myocardial embolism

Vascular tear and vascular occlusion are the biggest differences between aortic dissection and myocardial occlusion. In addition, the former signs will cause a sharp pain in the chest, spreading to the shoulders and back, and the latter will cause chest pain, chest pain, and sweating.

Aortic dissection:

The aorta is the largest and most important blood vessel in the human body. It is responsible for receiving blood leaving the heart, branching to different organs, up to the brain, and down to the abdomen and lower limbs.

When the intima layer of the blood vessel is damaged, tearing occurs, blocking blood flow, blood has a chance to enter the inner wall of the blood vessel, or the inner muscle layer of the blood vessel through the tear, forming a false lumen (False lumen), affecting the organs that receive blood, which may cause Aorta dissection.

Once it occurs, the mortality rate can reach 30%.

And if the stripping position is extended to the heart, it will affect the pericardium, causing pericardial bleeding, pericardial tamponade, and even coronary artery occlusion.

Myocardial embolism:

Myocardial infarction is a "complete blockage" of the cardiovascular blood flow. Loss of blood in the heart will result in hypoxia, necrosis of the heart muscle, affecting the function of the heart, and people will pass out or even die suddenly.

Classification of aortic dissection

The incidence of aortic dissection is an average of 2.6 to 3.5 people with aortic dissection per 100,000 people per year. Aortic dissection is divided into two categories:

Aortic dissection (01 drawing)

Type A: More common, ascending aorta (ascending aorta) tears, and may extend to the abdomen, higher mortality

Type B: tearing of the descending aorta does not involve the ascending aorta, or it can extend to the abdomen

People at high risk of aortic dissection

Although aortic dissection may seem uncommon, there are actually some people who are at higher risk (as shown in the picture 👇👇👇):

Aortic dissection symptoms

Symptoms of aortic dissection may vary depending on where it occurs; when aortic dissection is close to the heart, the symptoms are similar to myocardial infarction, or it is difficult to distinguish.

When the aortic dissection occurs closer to the heart, the higher the risk; while it occurs in the brain, or stroke; if it occurs in the kidney, it may require dialysis for life.

Myocardial infarction symptoms

When the aortic dissection occurs near the heart, symptoms similar to myocardial infarction will appear, or it may be difficult to distinguish. Therefore, if related symptoms occur, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Aortic dissection treatment

The treatment of aortic dissection depends on its type:

Type A: Generally, tears and false cavities are repaired surgically, and the aorta is repaired with a tube, and the aortic heart valve may be replaced

Type B: It is not necessary to perform surgery immediately to control risk factors, such as controlling the three highs, and the more common one is controlling blood pressure; or it is necessary to have a vascular surgeon assess whether a stent is needed
