(CNN Spanish) -

Seven women and men from Latin America are part of the new list of the 100 most influential people in the world according to

Time

magazine

The group of Latin Americans comes from diverse origins, fields and even political ideologies.

Mexican chef Gabriela Cámara;

the Colombian singer J Balvin;

the Chilean feminist collective LasTesis;

the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro;

the indigenous activist in the Ecuadorian Amazon Nemonte Nenquimo;

Mexican feminist Arussi Unda, and Brazilian influencer Felipe Neto are the Latin American figures on the list.

The publication asked other well-known individuals in their fields to write the profiles for each figure.

Pussy Riots member Nadya Tolokonnikova said LasTesis "show today how popular art can be about changing the world, not entertaining it."

He wrote about the intervention of LasTesis before the Supreme Court of Santiago de Chile with the topic "A rapist on your way."

And he said that “blaming the victims and shaming the whores are deeply ideological assumptions that are embedded in our brains, education and legal systems globally.

You have to change that.

The 21st century is the century of sisterhood.

Fuck you, Weinsteins of the world.

We have just started".

“I remember that he once told me that he would not give up.

That he was going to keep fighting.

That he would continue to defend the forest he loves from the industries and the oil companies that would devour it, ”DiCaprio, also an environmental activist, writes in

Time

magazine

.

And he adds: «The cause of Nemonte is our cause.

She inspires those she talks to to pick up the nearest rock and walk alongside her as her movement continues to grow.

I am lucky to have met her, and I am even more fortunate to have learned from her.

Gabriela Chamber

About Gabriela Cámara, the founding chef of World Central Kitchen, José Andrés, wrote that it is “one of those chefs who is more than a chef.

She is a Renaissance woman at the forefront of our industry, fearlessly forging a path to the most perfect society she imagines. "

Andres added in the

Time

magazine profile

that “she leads from the front in her restaurants, putting social justice first and advocating for those whose voices are too often marginalized.

She leads the way.

J Balvin

The singer Camila Cabello was in charge of the profile of J Balvin and said that what she most admires and loves about him "is that he is himself."

“He is himself to the world, he is himself to his friends and colleagues, and he has the kind of heart that makes him a very supportive person.

When he wins, we all win, ”Cabello wrote.

Arussi Unda

Mexican investigative journalist Lydia Cacho wrote: “If we stop, the world stops.

Those were the words that Arussi Unda, a feminist from Veracruz, Mexico, used to call a national women's strike on March 9, 2020. In response to her call, millions of women in Mexico stayed home without going to work. and they refused to care for other people, reminding the world of the important role that women of all ages, races and economic backgrounds play in making democracy work.

Arussi is the spokesperson for the feminist organization Las Brujas del Mar. "Arussi is unstoppable with her call for diversity-feminism for peace: just what Mexico needs at this time," says Cacho.

Jair bolsonaro

From the other side of the ideological spectrum,

the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro

, was also part of the

Time

magazine list

.

Time's

international editor

, Dan Stewart, wrote that the story of the year in Brazil can be told in numbers.

Like the 137,000 lives lost to the coronavirus, the more than 29,000 fires in the Amazon rainforest in August alone, and the worst recession in 40 years.

"A president whose stubborn skepticism about the pandemic and his indifference to environmental waste has driven all of these numbers up," Stewart said.

But the 37% approval rating in recent polls, Stewart writes, “reflects the fervent, almost cult following, that he commands.

For your base, you just can't do anything wrong.

It is the rest of Brazil and the world that remain to count the cost.

Felipe Neto

Also on the list is Brazilian influencer Felipe Neto who, as Rio de Janeiro congressman David Miranda writes, “with the 2018 election of far-right president Jair Bolsonaro and the empowerment of his proto-fascist movement, Neto, risking his brand and security, he reused his popularity to become one of Bolsonaro's most effective opponents.

And Miranda concludes by saying: «When Felipe Neto speaks, millions listen.

And his now just and politicized voice resonates powerfully in a country whose democracy is in danger.
