The Colombian president called the process a "prefabricated electoral orchestra", which seeks to "perpetuate the dictatorship" of the questioned president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela's parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 6.

Some 27 opposition parties announced that they will not participate, calling them a "sung fraud."

"The threats to democracy that we see today threaten the freedoms of nations and also impede regional integration," said Iván Duque.

"Maduro's dictatorial regime supports itself with the resources of drug trafficking, harbors terrorists and is a constant threat to democracy in the region and around the world," added the president of Colombia.
