The sailing clubs on Lake Starnberg are threatened with a huge catastrophe. Because of new Corona requirements, they will probably not be able to compete on the 4th Bundesliga matchday in Kiel.

The sailing clubs on Lake Starnberg are threatened with a huge catastrophe.

Because of new Corona requirements, they will probably not be able to compete on the 4th Bundesliga matchday in Kiel.

Starnberg / Tutzing

- “Now the time has come.” Maximilian Weiß is beside himself two days before the fourth Bundesliga matchday in Kiel.

Before the start of the German sailing elite class, the team boss of the German Touring Yacht Club had dealt with the question of what would happen if a team was unable to start due to Corona.

He did not get a sufficient answer from the Hamburg concept shipyard, which organizes the Bundesliga.

Now the confusion is great after the government of Schleswig-Holstein declared the city of Munich a risk area on Monday and entry into the country between the North and Baltic Seas is no longer possible.

A number of sailors from the Starnberger See clubs live in the risk area of Munich

Some of the sailors from the Starnberger See clubs who were nominated for Kiel come directly from Munich.

They would have to go into quarantine on site for 14 days or undergo two corona tests at least five days apart - there is not enough time for either.

Three crew members are affected by the DTYC: Maximilian Weiss, Laura Fischer and Paul Mothwurf have their residence in the state capital, only helmsman Julian Stückl is registered in Tutzing.

“We don't have the capacity to send other people,” explains Weiss.

All other members of the DTYC cadre also live in Munich.

The consequence is clear: "I'm afraid we won't start up."

The health department in Kiel has yet to find out where exactly Raoul Heraeus lives.

According to Ilja Wolf, the sailor from the Bavarian Yacht Club lives somewhere on the city limits between Munich and Unterhaching, which makes a decision complicated.

The BYC team boss wants to wait for the official statement before announcing the decision whether his crew will go north.

The tendency is clear: "If there is no permit, we will not take off." To send another crew is not an option for Wolf.

"We can't pull a team out of the hat."

The Munich Yacht Club has also announced Jannik Pöhlmann, a sailor who lives in Munich, for this weekend.

Micki Liebl is playing with the idea of appointing a replacement, but the team boss is not enthusiastic about it.

“It's a disadvantage for us,” he fears.

Newly formed teams don't work that smoothly.

The Ministry of Health in Schleswig-Holstein probably does not issue a special permit

Yesterday afternoon it became apparent that the Ministry of Health in Kiel would not give any special permission for the sailors from Munich.

The concept shipyard made the DTYC an offer: "They want to make people from other sailing clubs available to us," reports Weiss.

But that would violate the rules of the league.

The team boss therefore passed the case on to his club management, which is now clarifying with the German Sailing Association what consequences there may be if one does not compete in Kiel.

No definitive statement was available from the concept shipyard.

“Everything will be within the legal framework”, promised company spokeswoman Deyke Zschachlitz.

Corona: Sailors definitely want to adhere to entry regulations

The three clubs from Lake Starnberg agree that they will strictly adhere to the entry requirements of Schleswig-Holstein.

“These are laws,” explains Weiss.

Violations can result in fines of up to 10,000 euros.

“That makes sense,” says Weiss.

After all, Germany is still in the grip of the global pandemic.
