(CNN Spanish) -
The Ministry of Justice of Brazil sent 40 firefighters from the National Public Security Force on Wednesday to collaborate in extinguishing fires in the Pantanal.
The measure meets the request of the governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes, and will be published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the logistical support also includes the dispatch of ten vehicles, two minibuses and a helicopter.
The firefighters will fight the fire for 30 days, a period that can be extended.
Tens of thousands of fires in the Amazon are taking the region to a point where it will not be able to produce enough rain to sustain itself.
