The Corona Cabinet will convene this morning (Wednesday) to decide on the possibility of tightening the closure, including imposing additional restrictions on gatherings in synagogues and demonstrations.

The Ministerial Forum was scheduled for about eight hours yesterday, during which no decision was made following a dispute over the issue of prayers and protests across the country.

At this time, there is a preliminary discussion on the outline of demonstrations and prayers that will be presented in the cabinet.

Prof. Gamzo, recommended tightening the restrictions on closure as part of an attempt to curb the spread of the virus, and among other things proposed immediately closing synagogues and allowing prayers in open areas only.

This is while according to the current outline of the demonstrations, which has not yet been approved by the ministers and the Knesset, protests can be held in capsules.

Thus, the demonstrators will be divided into groups of 20 people while maintaining a distance between the groups, as well as will be required to wear masks.

It was also decided that the organizers of the demonstrations would be required to appoint ushers to enforce the rules.

Recommendations hinted at tightening the closure

  • Reduction of workplace activity: private sector - 50%, public sector in an emergency format

  • Closing of synagogues and banning wide-ranging holiday gatherings

  • Complete closure of markets (including the four species market)

  • Reducing risks on Yom Kippur - increased enforcement of the ban on mikvahs

  • If it is decided to aggravate - all aggravations must be carried out together as soon as possible

Blue and white chairman Benny Gantz wrote that “Today the Corona Cabinet will present limited outlines for prayers and demonstrations by professionals in the police, the Ministry of Health and legal advice to the government.

We will back up their decision, act responsibly and sensitively in order to preserve the lives and health of the citizens. "He said," These are not ordinary days and I am sure everyone will accept this with understanding. "

Ganz wrote in his opening remarks that" in a democracy the right to demonstrate and protest is sacred.

The demand of those who seek to pray as the Jewish people have practiced for thousands of years is also sacred and just.

But no less important, and certainly in national emergencies is the right to health and security.

We will have to balance all these rights. "

In the preliminary discussion on the outline of the demonstrations and prayers, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn, Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana, Science Minister Yizhar Shai, Spokesman Avichai Mandelblit, Corona Commissioner Roni Gamzo, Acting Commissioner of Police Motti Cohen, and Director General of the Ministry of Health Hezi Levy.

The Ministry of Health updated this morning that 6,923 people have been diagnosed in Corona in the past day - a record number of daily diagnoses since the outbreak of the plague in Israel.

This increased the number of infected in Israel to 200,041.

Yesterday, results were obtained for 61,165 tests, with the percentage of positive for the virus being 11.7%.

The number of active patients is 54,322.

1,341 patients are hospitalized, including 634 critically ill, of whom 171 are respirators.

As of today, 1,316 people have died from the corona virus in Israel - a jump of 24 deaths since yesterday.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri expressed readiness to close the synagogues if the demonstrations were canceled, and even threatened to resign if it was decided to impose restrictions only on prayers and not on protests.

According to the chairman of Shas, he will have no problem standing in front of the ultra-Orthodox public and convincing them that mental supervision also rejects Yom Kippur, but added: "But I can not understand how demonstrations are yes and prayers are not. How can this be explained to the ultra-Orthodox public?" This is the most important thing on Yom Kippur. "

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also called for comparing the restrictions in both areas.

Netanyahu described the weekly demonstrations in front of his residence and private home, calling for his resignation, as a "farce."

The prime minister said that "the whole public is required to comply with restrictions and only a group of protesters is excluded from the rule. It is allowed to go to the Western Wall only if you live a thousand meters away, but Balfour can be reached from all over the country.

On the other hand, ministers in blue and white expressed opposition to reducing the demonstrations.

Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn agreed that "the demonstrations should be adjusted to the closure," but stressed that "restrictions should be set by professional staff and not by politicians, against whom a protest is directed. We will also support giving police enforcement powers to protesters who have improved the guidelines."

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi suggested that the professional staff of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice and the police, who formulated the outline of the demonstrations, formulate an updated proposal on the subject of the demonstrations, and present it to the Corona Cabinet today.

Sources who participated in the discussion said that an Ashkenazi proposal had been accepted, and the Ministerial Forum would discuss the outline.

Ahead of the cabinet decision, the organizers of the demonstrations against the prime minister have made it clear that they do not intend to stop the protest against him, and blame him for the health-economic crisis.

The chairman of the "New Contract - Crimea Minister" movement, Yishai Hadas, emphasized that the demonstrators are committed to maintaining public health, and rejected the claim that the checks are a focus of infection. "We will never allow the normalization of madness.

We intend to continue to demonstrate, we will continue to maintain public health, wear masks and keep our distance.

"The demonstrations outside do not cause contagion, as has been proven in studies around the world," said

Jordan Schwartzman, one of the leaders of the "black flags," who joined Hadas, saying, "The demonstrations are not the problem and stopping them is not the solution.

There is one and only one solution for Corona: replacing the Israeli leadership with a leadership that is engaged from morning to evening in solving the problems.

The fight against Netanyahu will continue with bridges at intersections and convoys. "

Instead, we need to invest in and explain the importance of keeping the rules - wearing a mask and keeping your distance. "
