The defendant Li Shanlun (43 years old), the former sales director of Databank Research Company, was charged with one count of fraud in violation of Section 16A of the Theft Ordinance.
The defendant was the sales director of Jinpei at the time of the case. The company mainly provided local licensed banks including Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., providing search services related to the Companies Registry and the Business Registration Office.
The defendant established Databank Services independently in June 2018, which is also engaged in search business.
The charge alleges that the defendant allegedly falsely stated to Bank of Communications Hong Kong that Jinpei would change its name to Databank Services and that Jinpei would replace the new website between June 8 and October 4, 2018.
The defendant was suspected of intent to defraud and induced Bank of Communications Hong Kong to hire Databank Services to provide services to him, which resulted in him gaining benefits, or JinPai suffered disadvantages.
The defendant’s false statement to the bank reportedly involved more than RMB 32,000 in service fees.
