The city library and the multi-generation house LiB are working together: With the “mobile library”, sponsors bring literature to people who can no longer borrow themselves.

A first duo has already formed.

Fürstenfeldbruck - “Mobile Library” is the name of the project that Diana Rupprecht, director of the Aumühle city library, and Christina Siedl, director of the multi-generation house “Life is Encounter” (LiB), started.

"Voluntary sponsors deliver media to people who can no longer go to the library independently for health reasons," explains Rupprecht.

The two institutions take over the mediation.

A reader who can no longer walk well because of her age and a godmother have already found each other.

“I'm the errand boy,” says Brigitte Ebbert and laughs.

She heard about the project from Christina Siedl.

"I was very sick myself and received help, now I want to give it back," says the 60-year-old.

From now on she takes care of the elderly lady, brings her new books and the ones she has read back to the library.

The dog in honorary office

The reader herself orders the books she would like to read by telephone from the city library.

“The library calls me when the reading package is ready to be picked up,” says Ebbert.

She simply integrates the pick-up and delivery service into her everyday life.

“I go for a walk with my dog twice a day and run the errands.

My dog is now doing volunteer work, so to speak, ”jokes the Brucker.

The idea for the project arose from the search for cooperation between the library and the multigenerational house, explains LiB boss Siedl.

"The problem that at some point members of the library can no longer come was known to the management," reports the 59-year-old.

However, some bureaucracy still had to be done before the start.

Questions about data protection and liability for damage to the book had to be clarified and checklists created.

Siedl and the multigenerational house take care of the placement of volunteers.

“The sponsors themselves do not have to be members of the city library.” The reader's ID is also not given to the sponsor responsible.

And: At the beginning, almost after the first delivery of the book, people look: “Does the chemistry between reader and godfather fit or was it a one-off?”, Explains Siedl.

In addition, care is taken that the two people do not live too far away from each other.

The project is still at the very beginning.

“We have to see how it develops,” says Siedl.

With Diana Rupprecht, she hopes that there will be a sponsor for every reader in the future.

"In my opinion, the delivery service can be easily integrated into everyday life - whether walking, cycling or shopping," says the LiB boss.
