In his previous ten professional fights, the Weilheim boxer Alex Rigas has remained undefeated.

That should still be the case after the eleventh fight on Saturday.

Weilheim

- At the end of November last year, Alex Rigas won the “Continental Belt” of the International Boxing Organization (IBO) in the light heavyweight division.

After the win against Alpay Yaman in Krefeld, the break from competition for the pugilist from Weilheim turned out to be significantly longer than intended.

Like other sports, boxing came to a standstill due to the corona pandemic.

More than keeping fit personally and waiting for the restrictions to end was not possible for the 28-year-old boxing professional from the district town, who previously boxed for TSV Peißenberg.

But now Rigas finally has a goal in mind again, for which he recently prepared himself specifically.

On Saturday, September 26th, he will step into the ring in Düsseldorf against Patrick Mendy - battle name “The Tiger”.

The Weilheimer reckons with everything, just not with a task that has to be mastered in passing.

“He's only 90th in the world rankings and his record doesn't look that good at first glance.

However, if you take a closer look at his opponents and analyze his defeats, you can see that he actually only lost to the top people, ”says Rigas.

"He has also won against very strong opponents, so you shouldn't underestimate him," says the Weilheimer about the 30-year-old opponent from Gambia, who lives in England and has contested 37 professional fights, of which he won 18.

"But I think that he will be exactly the right opponent after the long break," explains Rigas before the duel in the super middleweight division, which is scheduled for eight rounds.

However, the Weilheimer cannot avoid being the favorite.

The statistics show ten professional fights for Rigas to date, all ten he has won.
