Huang Zhifeng, the former Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Universiade, was arrested again.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on September 24 that he was deeply concerned about the arrest of Huang Zhifeng and stressed that the Chinese and Hong Kong governments must respect the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong people.
Lan Taowen wrote that Huang Zhifeng’s arrest is another example of the Hong Kong government’s targeting of social activists, and mentioned that the Sino-British Joint Declaration protects the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong people and must be respected.

The EU issued a statement earlier on the same day in response to the incident.
The spokesperson pointed out that the incident was a follow-up to the recent disturbing mass arrests of pro-democracy activists, calling for the case to be carefully reviewed by an independent judicial institution.
