The European Union is exhausted.
The political adventure of
"ever closer union"
in the peace of countries which were so torn apart in war is at a standstill.
Essentially constituting a common market (which is not lacking in faults but presents advantages which should not be overlooked either) and a sort of Commonwealth of increasingly loose solidarity between Member States, the Union does not has very little political consistency: both on the stage of the world, on which the giants easily play with its weaknesses and the divisions of its members, and in the eyes of the European peoples, whose general feeling oscillates between indifference and rejection of more and more marked.
After decades of political constructivism, "soft power" on the outside and "constitutional patriotism" on the inside are blatant failures: they ignore the tragedy of political passions that make history.
