The steep rise in morbidity in Corona is not limited to Israel, and it seems that after a slight decline in the rate of infections in European countries, a second wave is currently sweeping the continent, bringing the authorities to once again tighten traffic restrictions.

Among the countries that have decided to tighten restrictions, or are one stage before enforcing them, can be found France, Ireland and Spain - which since the outbreak of the epidemic has been considered one of the most significant centers of infection in the world.

With more than 700,000 infected since the outbreak of the epidemic, authorities in Madrid have imposed a closure in the high morbidity zones, warning against tightening restrictions as early as this weekend.

The number of cases diagnosed has skyrocketed since the end of the nationwide closure at the end of June, and with 200,000 infected within a month it now stands at 704,209 people - the highest in Western Europe.

The total number of deaths in the country rose to 31,118, including 13 deaths recorded during the last 24 hours.

"Hard weeks are coming to Madrid," Health Minister Salvador Ayala told reporters about the capital, which houses about 500 people a day.

Ayala added that the second wave of infections in Spain has lower intensity and speed than the first, and that the high numbers are mainly due to mass tests that now allow authorities to detect six or seven cases out of ten.

This is compared to one in ten a few months earlier.

"Although the figures may look similar, they are not," Ayala told parliament earlier this week.

In France, too, the authorities have warned against tightening restrictions.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex warned yesterday that the country may be forced to re-restrict areas where the rate of increase in morbidity has not dropped in the coming weeks.

"It's a race against time," Castex told one of the TV channels.

"The public needs to be attentive. If we don't act, we could find ourselves in a situation similar to what it was in the spring."

When asked if France is going to a general closure, he replied that the government is not interested in it - but did not rule out the possibility if the situation worsens.

French President Emmanuel Macron has come out in defense of the traffic restrictions that have already been imposed on various areas of the country, where morbidity rates are among the highest on the continent.

Health authorities in France announced yesterday that 16,096 people were found positive for Corona within one day.

The government is not interested in the closure but does not rule out the possibility of it being imposed.

The Irish government also yesterday imposed stricter restrictions on the northwestern province of Dongal, which would close restaurants and ban non-essential traffic.

This, after similar restrictions were imposed on the capital Dublin last week.

In the province of Dongal, the guidelines have been tightened after there was a significant increase in cases of infection in Corona and more than 120 diagnoses per 100,000 inhabitants have been registered in the last two weeks.

The government announced in a statement that the restrictions would remain in effect for three weeks.

The morbidity rate in Ireland yesterday stood at 71 cases per 100,000 people.

In doing so, it became the 17th out of 31 countries in the rate of infection among the countries under the supervision of the European Center for Disease Control.
