If you want to go on holiday in Italy, Croatia and Co., you have to be well informed beforehand.

Here you will find everything about the current entry regulations and corona measures.

  • Due to the corona pandemic, each country has set

    individual entry requirements

    .

  • From the mask requirement to the refueling ban, there is a lot to consider.

  • We have summarized for you what you have to

    pay attention to

    when

entering Italy, Austria, Croatia and Co.

A maximum of two vehicle occupants per row of seats, a mask requirement * in the car and a ban on toilet breaks - anyone who goes on vacation by car should find out in advance about the current entry regulations of the individual countries.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, special rules apply in popular travel destinations such as Italy, Austria and France.

Birgit Dreyer, travel expert at ERGO Reiseversicherung, knows the currently applicable regulations.

On holiday in Italy: mask compulsory in the car

People who do not belong to the same household must

wear mouth and nose protection while driving

.

In addition, the number of vehicle occupants from different households is limited: the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs allows a maximum of two people per row of seats and only on the seats on the side.

The passenger seat must remain vacant.

In a five-seater, only two other people can be transported in the vehicle in addition to the driver.

“However, the regulation can vary depending on the region,” says Birgit Dreyer.

“In South Tyrol, Friuli and Veneto, the number of passengers is not limited, but wearing a mask is compulsory for various households.

Trentino equates people who are closely related to each other but not from the same household as household members.

Minimum distances and mask are not required, ”says Dreyer from Ergo Reiseversicherung.

On ferry crossings to Sardinia, there may be fever checks at check-in; on arrival on the island, the body temperature is always measured.

In addition, travelers must fill out a signed self-assessment 48 hours in advance.

Passing through Austria despite Corona: No refueling stop when entering from a risk area

In Austria there is currently a travel warning for Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania.

When returning to Germany, German holidaymakers therefore have to

drive through the country without stopping

.

The use of the toilets at the rest area or refueling are also prohibited - high fines are incurred if this is not observed.

“In this case, I recommend all travelers to make a

stopover in Slovenia,

” says Birgit Dreyer.

"Because if you are stuck in a traffic jam in Austria with stop-and-go traffic, the fuel consumption is particularly high," says the travel expert from ERGO Reiseversicherung.

Drivers are only allowed to take two people with them in each row of seats, including the driver, if they do not live in the same household.

Wearing a mask is not mandatory.

France - temperature measurement during ferry crossing

On August 24, 2020, the German government issued a travel warning for Île-de-France (with the capital Paris) and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

In the capital, wearing a mask is compulsory in large parts of the city center.

The same goes for areas in

downtown Nice as well as in Marseille

.

There may well be spot checks at the borders, so car vacationers should plan more time.

If you leave the mainland by ferry in the direction of Corsica, you have to expect a temperature measurement.

Mouth and nose covering is mandatory during the entire crossing, and due to the distance regulations, there are fewer seats available for holidaymakers.

In addition, the island has been a risk area since September 9th.

When entering Germany, a mandatory PCR test is required and returnees may have to go into quarantine.

Croatia vacation: deposit of personal details at the border

At the Croatian border, vacationers must provide their personal details and contact details in order to be reachable in the event of a corona infection.

All those who

fill out

the

online travel notice form from

the Croatian Ministry of Tourism in

advance will

save themselves long waiting times.

The form is also available in German.

After successful registration, all users receive an ID number that they can show at the border.

"It is advisable to write down the number and print out the registration so that you can show it on entry," explains Birgit Dreyer.

For regions

Sibenik-Knin and Split-Dalmatia

, the Foreign Office has issued a travel warning on August 20, 2020 which is why returnees from these areas

within 72 hours of a Corona

-

undergo mandatory testing

and must stay until the negative result at home in quarantine.

Since then, the counties of Zadar, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Požega-Slavonia, Brod-Posavina and Virovitica-Podravina have also been added to the risk areas.

Netherlands despite Corona: mouth and nose protection in busy places

Those who do not come from the same household can still drive together in the car in Holland since July 1, 2020.

The Dutch government nevertheless recommends

wearing mouth and nose protection

.

Due to the high number of visitors in recent weeks, all pedestrians and cyclists over 13 years of age have to wear a mask in Amsterdam and Rotterdam not only in shops, but also outside in busy squares and streets.

The city of Amsterdam also asks that you not arrive over the weekend but from Monday to Thursday in order to regulate the number of tourists.

Since September 16, the provinces of North Holland and South Holland - which also include Amsterdam and Rotterdam - are now also risk areas.

Switzerland - quarantine after staying in the risk area

Both entry into Switzerland and transit through the country are currently unrestricted for German vacationers - unless they were previously in a

risk country such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, the USA, or Israel

.

Then travelers have to go into quarantine for ten days.

“Since the list of risk countries is constantly updated, it makes sense to inform yourself beforehand on the website of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG).

The overview is continuously updated, ”advises Birgit Dreyer.

There are no separate regulations with regard to the number of car occupants.

Despite different households, you can sit together in the car.

Transit for travelers - also from risk countries - is possible on a direct route, as long as entry into the next transit or destination country is secured.

On the way through Slovenia: Not all border crossings open

There is currently no

14-day quarantine

requirement for holidaymakers who are resident in Germany

.

This also applies to 18 other countries that are on the so-called “green list” of the Slovenian health department.

Pure transit is always possible, regardless of residence, as long as it takes place within 12 hours of entry.

For those who want to cross the border from Austria by car, only the Karawanken tunnel, Loibltunnel and Spielfeld (motorway) crossings are currently available.

The border crossing from Italy to Slovenia is only possible via Vrtojba / St.

Andrea, Fernetiči / Fernetti, Škofije / Rabuiese or Krvavi potok / Pesse possible.
