The corona virus continues to strike in continental Europe and the second wave continues to give its signals.

France today (Thursday) reported a daily infection record of 16,096, making it the fourth-largest number since the outbreak of the virus in the country.

At the same time, the local health ministry reported that the number of victims had increased in the last day by 52 and stands at 31,511.

The total number of people infected since March is approaching five hundred thousand and stands at 497,237.

Due to the sharp increase in the number of infected and the burden on the hospitals, the government has announced new restrictions on the big cities to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Spain: Madrid in focus with entry into closure

Meanwhile, the number of people infected in Spain today exceeded the 700,000 mark, which led the authorities to announce a state of emergency across the country, focusing on Madrid, where more than a third of the number of patients hospitalized are.

Since the end of the closure last June, the number of people infected has risen to 200,000 in less than a month and now stands at 704,209 - the highest number on the continent.

The death toll across Spain stands at 31,118 but the daily number of victims is low compared to data from March when an average of about 900 people died a day.

Authorities in Madrid, where close to 500 patients are hospitalized, have imposed a partial closure in areas with high morbidity.

At the same time, additional restrictions on the residents are expected to be published tomorrow.

Spanish Health Minister Salvador Elia said "the coming weeks are likely to be difficult, but we must act resolutely to reach a state where we can control the amount of infections".

He added that the second wave in the country has a lower impact compared to the first wave in terms of intensity and rate of spread and the reason for the high numbers is the amount of mass tests that allow authorities to detect an average of 7 cases out of ten tests, compared to one case out of 10 several months ago.

United Kingdom: Infection data are similar to Israel

Just a few days ago, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new restrictions that would last about six months, but the figures in the kingdom continue to climb.

According to data from the local Ministry of Health published today, a further 6,634 increase in data was diagnosed during the last day compared to the previous day.

It has also been reported that the death toll in the country has risen by 40 since yesterday and the total number since the outbreak of the virus stands at 41,902.
