The situation in the morning: the virus simply won't rest

2020-09-24T04:03:05.618Z

The corona crisis is worsening again in Europe and the USA. Dispute over Roland Tichy at the Erhard Foundation. And: New problems for Donald Trump. That is the situation on Thursday.

Today we are dealing with the corona crisis, which is worsening again, with the dispute over Roland Tichy as head of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation - and with Donald Trump's latest problem.

What is the virus doing again now?

The corona crisis just goes on and on, the virus does not rest.

The federal government has declared regions in eleven countries of the European Union to be risk areas due to the increasing number of infections.

This also includes areas in the neighboring countries of Denmark, the Czech Republic, France, Austria and the Netherlands.

Travelers returning from risk areas must be tested for corona 48 hours before or after entering the country.

The virus continues to spread in large European cities such as Vienna, Paris and Lisbon.

France is taking even stricter measures: in Marseille all bars and restaurants have to close from Saturday.

In Paris and other major cities, major events with more than a thousand participants are prohibited.

France again has more than 13,000 new infections.

The day before it was 10,008.

In the past six days, the new infections exceeded the 13,000 mark for the third time.

The UK sees the highest daily increase in infections since May 1.

6178 new infections were confirmed within 24 hours.

The virologist Christian Drosten says: "The pandemic will only really start now. Here too."

In the US, the Dow Jones index slipped 500 points.

There is growing concern about a further deterioration in the economic situation as a result of the corona pandemic.

"2020 sucks," say the Americans.

Looks like.

What else is Tichy doing at the Erhard Foundation?

The SPD politician Sawsan Chebli wants to run for the Bundestag in Berlin

Roland Tichy

is the head of the German central organ of Internet trolls, called "Tichy's insight".

When some of those who are constantly outraged complain about German journalism online, the same people like to praise "Tichy's insight" as real, objective journalism.

This is of course a very funny view of things, because the "insight" is all sorts of things, but certainly not objective.

What a columnist in "Tichy's Insight" recently wrote about the Berlin SPD politician

Sawsan Chebli

is not at all funny

.

It was so primitive and sexist that it doesn't deserve repetition at this point.

Interestingly enough, it was noticed on the occasion that Tichy is still head of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation, an association that was once founded by the former Chancellor to "further develop and strengthen the social market economy".

Out of annoyance about Tichy and his paper, the CSU politician Dorothee Bär declared her membership in the Erhard Foundation ended.

The vice-chairman of the FDP, Alexander Lambsdorff, called on other members of the association to also resign: Tichy sneaked through the "Restrespekt" foundation, he said.

"No democrat should go along with that."

It will be interesting to see how the other members of the foundation behave: the list of celebrities in the association is long.

This includes, for example, Jens Spahn, the Minister of Health.

Or: Jens Weidmann, head of the Bundesbank.

In this case, simply sitting it out in silence is certainly not possible.

This not only damages the foundation but also the reputation of each individual member.

Or did the clocks stop at the time of Ludwig Erhard?

Cars will no longer be allowed to have internal combustion engines in California from 2035

Smelly pick-up trucks with diesel engines, large sedans with eight cylinders - at least in California that will no longer be the case in the not too distant future.

With a view to advancing climate change and forest fires on one's own doorstep, the state's governor,

Gavin Newsom

,

wants to

ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars from 2035.

The US state would be a trendsetter not only in the USA but also worldwide, which other states on both sides of the Atlantic could soon follow.

The

change in California will

also force the

German auto industry

to make more efforts in the development and sale of electric cars.

California is an important sales market for BMW, Mercedes, VW and Porsche, almost 40 million people live there, and German cars from the luxury segment in particular are - still - in great demand.

The Mercedes dealership in Beverly Hills takes up almost a block.

If the Germans want to remain competitive, the German manufacturers will have to offer enough electric models by the 2035 system change at the latest.

Eric Trump heads the family business in New York

... is the son of US President Donald Trump,

Eric Trump

.

A court in New York has ordered Eric Trump to answer questions from investigators on the family company's business practices under oath in October.

The prosecution in New York is investigating, among other things, the question of whether the Trump company could have misrepresented assets in order to deceive better terms for loans and tax breaks.

Eric Trump and his lawyers had urged that the questioning should take place after the presidential election on November 3rd.

Among other things, they justified this with the fact that Eric Trump would have to attend many election campaign dates for his father.

In addition, it should be avoided that the poll could be used politically in the election campaign, argued the Trump lawyers.

The court rejected the postponement and called the objections "unconvincing".
