Magdeburg Court is struggling to take the measure of the act perpetrated by Stephan Balliet, a 28-year-old radicalized German who, on October 9, 2019, attacked a synagogue and a Turkish restaurant in Halle, coldly shot two passers-by and injured nine others .
The event took place on Yom Kippur, the most sacred holiday on the Jewish calendar whose commemorations, in this year 2020, will begin on Sunday evening.

While praying in front of the synagogue, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke of a "

" for the German people.
By opening the trial at the end of July, less than a year after the fact, the German justice system has shown speed.
