In a forum at L'Obs, the leader of the Insoumis believes that "creolization and universalism" represent "the two states of the same fundamental reality in the human condition".

The term had caused some talk.

During a speech on the Republic Monday, September 21, Jean-Luc Mélenchon had mentioned and greeted the

“creolization of society”

.

Some commentators believed that the leader of the Insoumis was thereby praising communitarianism, in fact sending the French back to their origins.

The former presidential candidate, who should try his luck a third time in 2022, explained in a column published this Friday in

L'Obs

.

Not "a political goal"

“Creolization is neither a project nor a program.

It is a fact that is evident.

It happens on its own.

Hence the stupidity of those who attribute creolization to me as a political objective

, ”he mocked

.

“Do they want to oppose the spontaneous process of creolization?

But then they would have to say why.

And above all how do they plan to do it

,

asked the leader of LFI, while recalling that the term came from the Martinican philosopher, Édouard Glissant.

“universalism”

.

"We are all similar in terms of our basic needs but each of us is different from any other",

he argued, opposing

"an essentialization of beings and their identity"

.

"Creolization is the process of life itself in the constantly evolving social animals that we are"

, concludes Jean-Luc Mélenchon, proposing a formula for

"universalist humanism: 'Similar in difference'"
