The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has exceeded its powers to provide assistance to the German side in the case of the alleged poisoning of Russian politician Alexei Navalny.
"Berlin does not need the help of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to analyze samples in the organization's accredited laboratories," Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement, adding that "there are signs of the technical secretariat exceeding its powers and violating the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention."
And Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Alexander Shulgin, confirmed earlier today that the attempt to refer Navalny's case to the OPCW fact-finding committee is considered a blatant interference in Russia's internal affairs.
