Protesters in Marseille, the second largest French city, demanded today the government cancel the order to close restaurants and bars after it was placed on high alert to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
Reuters reported that the protesters, who own restaurants and bars, decided to challenge the matter amid signs of mounting public frustration across France over the reimposition of restrictions on public life.
French Prime Minister Jean Castex said yesterday evening that he could not rule out the targeted closures, pointing out that his country is facing a race against time.
For her part, Labor Minister Elizabeth Bourne said that the government will work to cover the fixed costs of bars and restaurants during the closure .. and that partial unemployment plans will ensure that employees receive their full salaries.
The health authorities in France recorded 16,96 new confirmed cases of corona, surpassing the previous record statistic, which amounted to 13,498 cases and registering the fourth highest rate of new daily infections ever since eight days.
