Due to a defect in the ventilation system, the Geretsried ice hockey team has to continue training away from home.

On Friday, the ESC will play another preparatory game at the Bayern League competitor EC Pfaffenhofen.

Geretsried

- The Geretsrieder River Rats have been training on ice since the beginning of September.

However, not in the Heinz Schneider ice rink, because construction work is still going on there.

The ice hockey cracks no longer have to go to Mittenwald as they did in the previous season, but sessions at 9 p.m. in Bad Tölz are not a pleasant alternative either.

Even more so, even if only two appointments per week are booked for cost reasons.

"Yes, the situation is unsatisfactory," admits Rudi Sternkopf.

The ESC coach misses a lot more than the missing ice ages, however: “As an ice hockey player, you need your own stadium, your own changing room.

It's like a second living room where you can be with your teammates before and after training or a game. ”The ex-professional's hope of being able to train with his protégés in Geretsried from Wednesday onwards was ruined by a defect in the ventilation system .

A shortcoming that the Bayernliga team will have to cope with in its third preparation game, which will take place this Friday at 8 p.m. at EC Pfaffenhofen.

The recent duels between the River Rats and Ice-Hogs have been very close.

In the Bayernliga relegation round, the ESC won 7: 6 in Pfaffenhofen and retained the upper hand at home with the same result.

While the club kept its Canadian defense chief Jake Fardoe and top scorer Nick Endress, there were some rotations in the squad.

Goalkeeper Franziska Albl (EV Pfronten) and defender Liam Hätinen (EC Peiting) as well as strikers Wasilij Guft-Sokorov (SC Riessersee / U20) and Pat Martens (EKU Mannheim), who, as a Canadian, has the second contingent position at the ECP, are new.

“That doesn't have to be an advantage when there are so many changes in the team,” says Rudi Sternkopf.

The 53-year-old set the goal: "We want to remedy the mistakes we made in Peißenberg." In the most recent 4-6 defeat, his team often acted recklessly in their own third.

"If you then lose the puck while moving forward, that is fatal," warns the ESC coach.

The decisive factor for the goals conceded after the initially pleasing 3-0 lead was also the state of fitness of the River Rats: "Peißenberg got stronger and stronger towards the end," admits Sternkopf.

But the River Rats will probably only be in full force when they can train regularly again in their own stadium.
