SPIEGEL:

At the beginning of October you want to present the results of the Rule of Law TÜV, in which for the first time all EU countries were systematically examined to determine how things are in terms of democracy, freedom of the media and the fight against corruption.

Germany too has to put up with criticism.

Jourová:

On the whole, the judiciary in Germany works well.

The vast majority of citizens have a high level of confidence in the independence of the courts, which is perhaps the most gratifying result for me.

SPIEGEL:

But Germany’s judiciary is also not without its flaws.

Most recently, for example, the European Court of Justice complained that the state justice ministers can issue instructions to the public prosecutor.
