Today, the accredited registration centers in public universities and their branches began accepting university comparison applications for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has allocated 72 accredited centers, and one center may include several centers according to the type of differentiation in the universities of Damascus and its branches in Daraa, Sweida, Quneitra, Aleppo, Tishreen, Al Baath, Hama, Euphrates, Deir Al-Zour, Hasaka and Tartous to accept the requests for the general preference for the scientific branch and the preparatory year for medical colleges in general and the parallel and preferences for granting Private universities, students of the eastern governorates, the families of martyrs, the wounded, the missing, the children of faculty members, the disabled, Arab and foreign students, non-resident Syrians, expatriates, and vocational high schools, in addition to accepting applications for direct registration of high school diploma students from the literary branch in general and parallel.

According to the Ministry's instructions, the student applies to the comparison personally or through his legal representative under a public or private agency, and the father, mother, brother, sister, grandfather or grandmother can apply for secondary school certificates in the event that he is not present. The registration employee electronically enters the student’s data, and then the preference card is printed in two original copies, one of which is handed over to the student to be shown when necessary, while the second copy of the general preference card is kept at the university, accompanied by a copy of the student’s ID card or registration.

In a statement to SANA, Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Student Affairs, Dr. Riyadh Tayfour confirmed that an integrated structure has been created to serve, guide, direct and register students within the differentiation centers in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students Committees, calling on students to read the preference declaration well before applying to it to know the admission requirements And conditions.

Dr. Tayfour pointed out that the high rates of this year are due to the high grades of students in high school and are concentrated in the upper segment, where about ten thousand students obtained grades exceeding 230 in addition to the number specified to accommodate each major, indicating that the differentials were merged this year with one comparison and the determination of the granting of private universities this General medical colleges only with a general comparison and will not be separated in order not to lose seats and to obtain only one admission.

Dr. Tayfour stated that this year the scientific branch's preference card includes several amendments, as it was allowed for the student to record in the comparison card 45 wishes, a maximum of which 35, as a maximum, for general admission and the eastern governorates and preferring the families of the martyrs and the children of the members of the teaching staff according to what is available to him and 10 wishes as a maximum To grant private universities, the student can, in each type of them, write down one or more desires, or not write any desire, such as choosing only general admission, or only choosing to grant private universities, or both.

Dr. Tayfour indicated that the student who has written in the preference card 35 desires for general comparison, except for granting private universities in the scientific branch, and all his desires have been rejected, to apply for the settlement of his status and his admission to the college or institute he desires if he fulfills the declared minimum limits for general admission and the required conditions and are not fulfilled. Settling his status if the number of the listed desires is less than 35, and the situation cannot be settled at the desire of the preparatory year or one of the scholarships of private universities or special preferences.

According to Dr. Tayfour, the student can amend his wishes more than once during the application period for the comparison, at the center for modifying desires at the university in which he previously submitted, after submitting the amendment request by the concerned person or his representative to the university president and after obtaining the approval, the center is reviewed The amendment is provided that it is attached to the previous preference card and the preference card from the registration center. The competent center modifies the wishes electronically and delivers the modified copy to the student according to the above approved mechanism. The other copy is kept attached to the application and the previous preference card in the center.

Dr. Tayfour stressed the need to fully adhere to the dates specified in the differentiation announcements for conducting competitions and interviews for colleges and institutes in which admission needs an interview, pointing out that the student has the right to apply for the comparison in one accredited registration center only, and in the event of applying to more than one center, the first card is approved and the second will be canceled judicially.

On the twenty-first of this month, the Ministry issued university admission preferences for the academic year 2020-2021 and set the period for accepting its applications during the period between 9-26 and 10-13-2020.

It is noteworthy that the Higher Committee for University Absorption decided during its meeting on the seventeenth of this month to accept all students who succeeded with a high school diploma in all its branches in the Syrian universities and institutes for the 2020-2021 academic year, which amounted to 139588 students, an increase of about 24 thousand over the previous year, taking into account the geographical distribution of students so that Absorbing the bulk of them in the universities in their governorates to reduce the financial burden on the people.

The committee also agreed, during its meeting, to approve a rate of parallel education of 40% to increase the chances of acceptance in public universities and increase the capacity in some engineering colleges and technical institutes that have a relationship with the labor market and reconstruction.
