Comment: AWO has negligently damaged its reputation

How can a congregation go so badly?

The problem is not the - cheated - President Fritz Steinberger, but the board of directors.

He has been feeling overwhelmed for a long time, comments editor-in-chief Hans Moritz.

At the Arbeiterwohlfahrt the hut is on fire - once again.

The delegates' meeting, at which the public was deliberately locked out, showed how deep the cracks go through the social association.

The Erdinger AWO is primarily a provider of childcare, the largest in the district.

The current development is a fatal signal for hundreds of families.

Are your children in good hands with a porter where chaos is celebrating a happy birth?

This is not a criticism of the staff, who tirelessly look after the children with dedication.

A meeting that is not publicly invited, and only partially accounted for, is useless.

Once again the question arises as to whether the board with Karin Seibt and Christian Cosimo is still up to its tasks.

Above all, the boss attracts attention again and again for her rude approach.

A father's care contract has already been terminated because he, as the parents' council, has spoken out too loudly about problems.

The AWO policy was also unhappy when the schools returned to shift operation after the lockdown.

Classes ended at 11:20 a.m., but the after-school care center would not have accepted the girls and boys until the usual time - the parents would have had to jump in for almost two hours in the morning.

Only massive public pressure brought the management to give in.

The board of directors also failed when it let its own district president Nicole Schley run into the open knife as election supervisor by not familiarizing her with the Erdinger regulations.

Now Schley's reputation has also been damaged, and the AWO is on the rubble of an apparently irregular election.

The fact that the long-standing and well-deserved President Fritz Steinberger was surprisingly knocked out of office is democracy.

However, the delegates have to know for themselves whether they have done themselves and the AWO a favor by sawing off their edgy foreman.

Because it was Steinberger who pushed the association forward for decades - with the courage to come up with innovative ideas such as a youth center and construction playground.

Steinberger was and is, regardless of his rough nature, the social conscience of the AWO, which reached far beyond the association.

Just remember his commitment to refugees and young prisoners.

In addition, Steinberger still has a short contact with politics - to Mayor Max Gotz as well as to District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer.

Neither Seibt nor Cosimo have that.

The same applies to the new presidium.

Who should lead this in the future?

Markus Marschall has resigned as a city councilor because of excessive workload, Hans Schmidmayer has just retired from politics in favor of his family.

Alexander Gutwill first has to gain a foothold in the city council.

The AWO faces difficult times - with a battered reputation.
