In the video: Lebanese president says the country is going to hell (Edit: Nir Chen)

Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adiv has announced that he is giving up his candidacy amid difficulties in forming a new government.

He received the mandate after the previous government resigned following the disaster at the port of Beirut last month, but the various factions, including Hezbollah, failed to reach an agreement on the composition of the ministers.

Adiv said he was giving up the task of forming a government after a meeting with President Michel Aoun, who this week warned that Lebanon would "go to hell" without a new government.

One of the main controversies was over the role of the Ministry of Finance, which was demanded by the Shiite factions Hezbollah and Amal.
