It was because one of his convictions for the tragedy requires confirmation from the House. "Technical issues are beyond us, but we are absolutely sure of Jaime's criminal responsibility," said Paolo Menghini, father of one of the victims.

The Justice granted the freedom to the former Secretary of Transportation Ricardo Jaime in the framework of the case for the tragedy of Once, in which 51 people died and more than 700 were injured, although the former official will continue to be detained for the corruption notebooks and for the irregularities in the purchase of rail cars from Spain and Portugal.

The decision was made by the members of the Capital Federal Oral Court No. 2 of the Capital, Jorge Luciano Gorini, Jorge Alberto Tassara and Rodrigo Giménez Uriburu.

The magistrates determined that Jaime must regain "immediate freedom" because one of the two convictions has not yet been ratified in the second instance.

It does not matter that other causes that keep him imprisoned fall on Ricardo Jaime.

It is an insult to family members and society that this criminal with an 8-year sentence has benefited from his freedom.

I hope that Cassation ratifies his sentence so that he returns to jail.

"For us, and not only for us but for Justice, Ricardo Jaime is responsible for the death of 52 innocents due to fraudulent administration and negligent havoc. There is a technical question: for a person to be detained, he must have a double sentence about the crime and he has about the fraudulent administration but not in the case of negligent havoc, which was included in the ruling of Chamber 3 of the Cassation Chamber in October 2018 ", explained Paolo Menghini, father of Lucas Menghini Rey, a of the victims of the Once tragedy.

Speaking to TN, Menghini added: "I do not see anything dark, in fact the Supreme Court upheld the sentences two days ago, which for us is a huge triumph of Justice and a huge response that nothing will cloud."

"The procedural and technical questions escape us, but we have absolute security of Jaime's criminal responsibility," he added.

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court of Justice confirmed the sentences applied to the former Secretary of Transportation Juan Pablo Schiavi, the businessmen Sergio Cirigliano and Roque Cirigliano and the machinist Marcos Córdoba, among others, in the case for the Once railway tragedy that occurred in 2012 .

The highest court rejected the appeals presented by the defendants' defenses, so the rulings against them were final and without the possibility of being reviewed again, according to judicial sources.

With the votes of the ministers Carlos Rosenkrantz (president), Elena Highton de Nolasco, Ricardo Lorenzetti and Horacio Rosatti, the Court rejected the appeals filed after invoking article 280 of the Civil and Commercial Procedure Code of the Nation that allows it to do so "due to lack of of sufficient federal tort or when the questions raised are insubstantial or lacking in importance. "

With this decision, the highest court confirmed the sentences that weigh on Schiavi (5 years and six months in prison), the Cirigliano and Córdoba (3 years and 3 months), among others, while the sentence that weighs on Ricardo Jaime, elevated to 7 years in prison by the Chamber of Cassation and who still does not have the double compliant.
