Peru to resume international regional flights from October 5

Peru's Ministry of Communications and Transportation announced that regional international flights would resume on October 5.

Peru's Ministry of Communications and Transportation announced on Saturday via Twitter that regional international flights would resume from October 5.

The decree was announced on Friday and made official on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Presidency of the Council of Ministries of Peru extended the state of national emergency from October 1 to October 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

During this period, Peruvians will not be allowed to leave their homes unless it is to buy food, for health reasons or for food delivery, according to the government news agency Andina.

Gatherings will also be prohibited and all movement will be restricted between 11pm and 4am in most regions.

On Saturday, President Martín Vizcarra inaugurated a hospital in Juliaca where covid-19 patients will be treated and temporarily isolated.

The hospital has 50 beds and is expected to receive its first 28 patients on Saturday.

During his visit, Vizcarra announced that on Monday he will meet with the leader of the Peruvian Congress Manuel Merino de Lama to discuss the pandemic and other measures that will be considered for October.

Peru has so far 794,584 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 32,037 related deaths attributed to the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

It is the sixth country with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases behind Colombia and Russia, according to Johns Hopkins University.
