A number of regions of Switzerland and Austria witnessed unusually early record amounts of snow after a sharp drop in temperatures and heavy rain.
"The snow fell in the town of Montana, located in the south of the country, and the thickness of the snow reached 25 centimeters, which led to the closure of roads," AP quoted the Swiss Meteorological Agency as saying.
In some parts of Austria, snowfall was recorded at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level.
Emergency groups have deployed in the mountainous regions of the two countries to remove snow and ice from roads that were closed due to the snowfall.
