Alexandre Dumas considered "
the flight to Varennes
" of Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and the Dauphin for "
the most important fact of the French Revolution, and even of the history of France
".
The author of The
Three Musketeers
will turn it into
La Route de Varennes
which looks more like a report enriched with testimonies than his classic historical novels.
The original manuscript written in 1856, recently found in Athens by the expert Dimitri Joannidès, will be auctioned on Saturday September 26 by the Maison Fauve Paris.
It is estimated between 60,000 and 80,000 euros.

A historic road movie
Such a happy superstition Alexandre Dumas, who was born on July 24, 1802, will specify in the notes of his newspaper
Le Monte-Cristo
of April 25, 1862 on page 267, the exact day of the beginning of the writing of his work: “
My album my trip, which has since been found, gave me the precise date, and luck made my trip the anniversary of the royal trip.
"
As a reporter he decided to follow himself the steps of the Royal flight to Varennes.
Hour by hour, like a historic road movie, in
La Route de Varennes,
it brings to life
that fateful night from June 20 to 21, 1791 during which Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, the Dauphin, Madame Royale and Madame Elisabeth escaped from the Palais des Tuileries in an attempt to join royalist emigres gathered in Montmédy in Lorraine.
