(ANSA) - ASSISI (PERUGIA), SEPTEMBER 26 - Twenty meters of thermal blankets have been placed on the doors of the Upper Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi on the eve of the World Migrant Day.

By joining the "Eldorato" artistic project by Giovanni de Gara, the community of friars of the SacroConvento of Assisi also made its voice heard on the issue of emigration.

Present at the ceremony, in addition to the artist De Gara, also Father Mauro Gambetti, Custodian of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, Father Marco Moroni, and Father Enzo Fortunato, director of the print shop of the Sacro Convento.

"In the face of 40-50 million displaced persons due to wars, conflicts, environmental disasters and today also the pandemic, we cannot remain indifferent", Padre Fortunato told ANSA.

"A tragic condition of displaced persons and refugees - he added - which was also experienced by little Jesus with his parents on the flight to Egypt".

Regarding the installation of the electric blankets, Father Fortunato stressed the fact that "they can provoke questions in pilgrims who arrive in Assisi on the eve of the Pope's visit and the feast of St. Francis".

"Eldorato's is an important message - said Father Gambetti - that makes us question what truly gives wealth. Gold embellishes, but true wealth lies in the joy that we can carry or have in our hearts, it is not tied to a metal. Joy true lies in this gold of the poor, where there is the possibility of forming relationships, huddling together to experience joy ".
