In the story "Children of the Mirage", which is sometimes translated as "Underground Children", Korolenko narrates through the lips of the 6-year-old Fasya, the suffering of his sister, Sonia, following the death of their mother and the severe grief of their father for her. In the third story “The Dream of Macar”, which is Korolenko’s most famous work after the blind lover, we read about a poor little peasant who wants to dream of a better future away from the feudal lord’s persecution and oppression, but he does not have time to dream. Hard physical labor consumes his days, but on Christmas Eve and after he sleeps exhausted he dreams That the forest god Taeyeon wanted to punish him cruelly and turn him into a horse, but Makar eventually managed to convince Taeyeon of his righteousness.

The collection is located in 231 pages of medium cut and its author Vladimir Korolenko lived between 1853 and 1921 and worked as a journalist and writer.
