As the number of victims of the corona virus worldwide approaches one million, the World Health Organization announced yesterday (Friday) that "it is not impossible for the number to double before there is a suitable vaccine."

The solution, according to experts, is uniformity in the countries' activities to reduce infections.

The gloomy forecast comes in light of the fact that "if we look at the number of casualties in the nine months since the virus broke out and at the same time look at the reality in which no vaccine has yet been found. It is inconceivable, but not impossible," according to Dr. Mike Ryan, The organization "The real question is whether we are willing to act together and do whatever it takes to avoid getting into this situation."

Since the outbreak of the virus in China, more than 32 million people worldwide have been infected and the number of victims stands at almost 984,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

"Mortality rates have dropped over the past few months thanks to a change in the method of treatment," Dr. Ryan added.

"The best action time is now. The infected should be checked and located and the infection chains interrupted. Maintaining social distance and personal hygiene are important but not enough. It should all be done together, combined with accelerated work on finding a vaccine."

According to Maria van Krakow, who is in charge of the technical aspect of the organization, she added that we should remember that we are at the end of September and the winter season is approaching.

"The upward trend in the number of new cases that have risen by an average of 5 percent across Europe in the past week is one of the issues that worries us greatly."
