2020-09-27T14:26:44.514Z

The Frenchman won the third Grand Prix of his MotoGP career in Catalonia, which allows him to regain the lead of the World Championship.

Clearly, Spain succeeds wonderfully in Fabio Quartararo.

In the country that formed him, the Frenchman started the season with a bang by winning the first two events in Jerez, establishing himself in the process as the big favorite for the MotoGP world title given the long scheduled absence of Marc Marquez. .

Except that behind, the season of the young 21-year-old from Nice had gone from the immense blue sky to the very overcast sky.

So much so that he even gave up his leading position in the Championship to Andrea Dovizioso in San Marino.

A leadership position that he will however soon regain, so soon the foot set in Spain, on the side of Catalonia this weekend ...

Already brilliant in qualifying, where he had set the second fastest time behind his teammate Franco Morbidelli, Quartararo had the perfect race this Sunday to clinch his third success in the premier class.

Or almost perfect because its takeoff, without being missed, was not as successful as those of Morbidelli or Jack Miller.

Nevertheless, the French played it patient to play with the American, who started off very offshore, then Valentino Rossi.

Galvanized by his overtaking, the French continued his festival during the 9th lap, taking the best from Morbidelli, before taking a small margin of safety on his partner.

Which came close to the worst when braking more than limit.

Suddenly, Quartararo found himself comfortably in the lead ahead of Rossi who, in search of his 200th podium in MotoGP, made a mistake on the 16th lap to end up in the gravel.

Zarco releases Dovizioso

A cruel abandonment for Rossi, but which made one happy: Quartararo.

Now with more than three seconds ahead of the lead, the Frenchman could afford the luxury of managing his end of the race to win ahead of the Suzuki of Joan Mir and Alex Rins.

A race not so simple as that however for the person concerned who confessed "to have almost fallen on multiple occasions."

With this victory, Quartararo achieves a tasty operation in the World Championship since Maverick Vinales finished only 9th while Andrea Dovizioso fell in the first round, won by Johann Zarco.

Suddenly, the Frenchman takes the lead in the Championship with 8 points ahead of Mir and 18 over Vinales.

Enough to approach with a smile his national Grand Prix at Le Mans on October 11.
