The Directorate of Agriculture in Sweida estimated the total production of raisins made from grapes for the current season at about 5,400 tons.
The assistant director of agriculture in Suwayda, Eng. Alaa Shuhayb, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that the percentage of grapes used in the manufacture of raisins is estimated at about 10 percent of the total annual production.
The Assistant Director of Agriculture pointed out that the production of raisins for the current season is good and brings added value to farmers through its manufacturing processes instead of selling grapes directly.
The raisin industry in As-Suwayda governorate is a traditional profession that reflects the region’s peculiarity and the customs of its people due to the availability of grapes, whose bushes exceed 4 million in the governorate.
