A week after the death of Supreme Court Liberal figure Ruth Bader Ginsburg and as her coffin received national honors in the Capitol Rotunda, Donald Trump nominated Justice Amy Coney Barrett to replace her in a special press conference at the White House.
This fast-track procedure has already started to generate heated reactions.
By appointing a conservative judge to America's highest court in the midst of a hotly contested presidential campaign, the presidential candidate is once again challenging his opponents.
Barrett is the third judge appointed by Trump, after Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh in 2018. His appointment, which is expected to be confirmed by the Republican majority in the Senate, will tip the Supreme Court towards the conservative camp with 6 judges against 3 liberals.
