Dozens of people are protesting today (Sunday) across the country in protest of the ban on publishing the name of the man who tried to murder his 31-year-old wife in Mitzpe Ramon about two weeks ago - and seriously injured her.

The protests, which are held under the name "Demonstration of rage - because rapists and murderers are more important to the justice system," take place in Jerusalem, Carmiel, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva and Haifa.

Last week, a demonstration was held against the background of the case, in which the demonstrators called on the law enforcement authorities to act to bring the case against the suspect in the act.

This time, however, the protesters will also point an accusing finger at Beersheba District Court Judge George Amorai, who ruled that the suspect's name would not be published at this time.

The protest gained momentum due in part to a network storm, in which various figures and organizations against violence against women published angry posts and tweets criticizing Judge Amorai's decision.

The "Political Calls" organization, which encourages feminist media on the Internet, wrote on Facebook that the judge protects a violent and dangerous person from the public - "instead of protecting the public from it."

"It was Judge George Amorai who told the suspect in the attempted murder of his wife, brutally stabbed her in front of their joint child and vandalized her face, who asked at the hearing to prevent the publication of his name so as not to damage his reputation. 'Thank you very much, you said important things."

"At this stage, the publication of the suspect's name does not contribute to the establishment and promotion of the public interest."

Judge Amorai

The WIZO organization also strongly condemned the judge's decision, saying that the one who needed the court's protection was the victim. He also called on the district court president to fire Judge Amorai, whose name, according to the organization, has been linked to many complaints about his professional performance. This judge, whose professional performance has been linked to many complaints over the past decade.

His decision reinforces the fear that the judge is not worthy to engage in such a case. "

Journalist Chen Srur-Artzi also referred to Judge Amorai's decision, ending the critical post with "Someone please restart the universe."

Others even called for the name of the judge to be published if it forbade the publication of the name of the suspect.

"If it is more important for an Amorai judge to maintain a potential killer's reputation than to protect the woman, then we will publish the judge's name."

During the hearing extending the detention of the 41-year-old last week, the Be'er Sheva District Court banned the publication of his name, despite the recommendation of the police representative who was present at the hearing to publish his name.

During the hearing, the suspect stabbed his wife said that the case should be thoroughly investigated before publishing his name and ruining his career.

"This case should first be examined in depth in detail and only after that pay attention to the publication. The easiest is to ruin a career and reputation of 45 years. I am a little surprised what so much this longing to come and publish. There will always be time to come to publish it. It's not the time right now. "

According to him, his parents are older people and this will make them discouraged.

"It's worth considering whether to publish at all," he continued.

"Her family can find a way to advertise. Their vengeance instinct is currently something understandable. But let's stop it for now. Surprising things may be found. Give me this chance."

At the end of the hearing, Judge Amorai ruled that the suspect's name would not be published at this time.

"The investigation is ongoing, and although evidence has been gathered that ties and even complicates the suspect in the offenses of attempted murder and malicious injury that caused serious injuries, the publication of the suspect's name does not contribute to establishing and promoting public interest. The court received information that the victim consented to her name. "This is just one of the considerations, and it also involves a minor who needs to be protected."

Fears of ruining his reputation.

Husband suspected of stabbing

The incident took place on Friday about two weeks ago, and in the end the man was arrested on suspicion of severely assaulting his wife in the southern city.

The police located the woman lying on the floor and suffering from serious injuries and in a serious condition, but since then her condition has improved.

Police said the tools used in the attack were apparently a knife and a rolling pin.

In the past, in 2019, there was already a report of domestic violence between the couple, which was then being handled in Tel Aviv.

The woman's mother said the improvement in her condition was a "miracle" and asked to thank neighbors who called police to the scene.

"I want to say thank you to all those who saved my child, they are angels and called for help. The neighbors and children who played outside the house and heard everything, and called their parents and said there were screams and cries - they saved my daughter. Every woman who is threatened and scared, "Physically and verbally, she has to get up to run away from her husband. A year and a half ago, we went to a lawyer and he convinced us to leave the divorce and go home in peace," she said.
